A triumphant true story
Aron Ralston was born on October 27th, 1975. He is an outdoorsman who likes to climb, hike, face many adventures and is also an engineer. In 2003, he survived an accident that would change his life for good and for which he’s well known today.
In 2003, when he was in Utah, he decided to climb the Blue John Canyon. So he went all the way by himself carrying all the equipment he was going to need. When he got there, he parked his car and walked to the Canyon. But then, while he was descending it, a 360kg stone fell with him and crushed his right arm against the Canyon wall in a certain way that he couldn’t seem to take his arm out of it.
The biggest problem was that he hadn’t told anybody where he was going before and he had only 350ml of water. He kept trying to keep calm all the time and also made many videos with messages to his family, once he really thought he would never leave that place alive.
So he had to spend five days there and, in the fifth day, when he was almost dying of hungry, he took enough courage to amputate his right arm using a knife and the boulder.
Despite losing a lot of blood, he took strength to get out of the Canyon. After he left, he was helped by a family that was passing by and survived.
This experience helped him to learn a lot about life and he continues to climb and face other adventures. This story became an inspiration for the film “127 hours”, starred by James Franco.
